A near-doubling of price in a few weeks, then a pause that gives back at most a quarter; completes on a close above the pole top.
Bulkowski's high and tight flag is one of the best-performing patterns in his stock data, and also one of the rarest: the pole must rise about 90% or more in under two months.
Crypto doubles more often than stocks, so this fires more often here than in Bulkowski's data; results vary widely.
How we define it
Pole: at least +90% within about 2 months (45 candles on 1D, 90 on 4H, 8 on 1W), rising fairly steadily (closes within 25% of the pole height of a straight line)
Flag: at least 5 candles on 1D (6 on 4H, 3 on 1W), gives back no more than 25% of the pole, no close above the pole top
Boundary: the pole top (horizontal)
Breakout (up) / breakdown (down): the first candle close beyond the boundary by at least 3% on 1D and 1W (1.5% on 4H)
Failed breaks: a breakout or breakdown that closes back inside the boundary within 6 candles on 4H, 5 on 1D or 3 on 1W is removed from the list
Trend filter: breakouts only above the 200-period EMA (40-week EMA on 1W), breakdowns only below it
Watchlist: the pattern is complete but unbroken and price is within 3% (or 1 ATR, at most 6%) of the boundary
